Interesting Document Signed by the Ba'al HaPetek, Rabbi Yisrael Odesser, from the Ledger of the Admo"r Rabbi Yochanan of Rachmastrivka's Father-in-Law

Handwritten leaf from the Chassid, Rabbi Nachman Yosef Wilheim's account ledger mentioning dozens of upstanding Jews in the Yishuv HaYashan, some prominent rabbis, who received sums of money for support. Jerusalem, 1936.

Rabbis and other renowned personalities mentioned on the first page (most if not all in their own original signatures) include: Bada"tz member Rabbi Yisrael Yitzchak HaLevi Reisman, the renowned maggid Rabbi Ben Tziyon Alfas, R' Eliyahu Ya'akov Fisher, R' Tzvi Sofer, R' Yosef Shmuel Shlomowitz, R' Chaim Gershon Wilner, R' Meir Zalman Levine, R' Tzvi Tuviah Cohen, R' Zanvil Stern, R' Zev Ashkenazi, R' Moshe Stern.

One of the signatories is "Yisrael Ber Odesser" - none other than the renowned Breslov leader, Rabbi Yisrael Ber Odesser, the "Ba'al HaPetek" who burned fiercely with Chassidic fire from birth to his last day, at a very advanced age.

The second leaf bears an additional list, handwritten by Rabbi Nachman Yosef himself. The rabbis listed on the second page include: R' Nachman Shiff, R' Yitzchak Gutmacher, R' Yitzchak Adler, R' Yeshayah Weiser, R' Dov Schechter, R' Avraham Aharonowitz, R' Alter Cohen Kovalsky, R' Ya'akov Moshe Sofer and more.

It is touching to see that despite the deep poverty in which the kedoshim of Jerusalem lived, to the extent they required donations of pennies from the renowned gabbai tzedakah, and had to sign for it themselves. However, this did not prevent them from occupying themselves with Torah and Divine service. They were filled with joy and their faces always bore smiles, despite the poverty and oppression. In this way, they grew in Torah and fear of Heaven, and became gedolim and leaders of the Jewish people.

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Yisrael Ber Odesser.
