My Friend the Gvir: Letter of Wealth from the Rebbe the Rayya"tz with his Handwritten Blessings and Signs of Plenty
Rare and extremely important letter of blessings, signed by the Admo"r Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn of Lubavitch. Otvosk [Poland] 15 Elul, 1937.
The letter is a proper segulah by every parameter:
- The date it was sent - during the days of mercy and forgiveness, especially the 15th of Elul, about which the Rebbe said "There were no days as good for the Jewish people as the 15th Elul ...!" (Hitva'aduyot 1989, Part IV p. 316, gloss).
- The letter opens with "My friend the gvir" - the ultimate Jewish expression of wealth.
- The important blessings themselves that make up the body of the letter - "I hereby bless [you] and [your] family, may they be well ... to be inscribed and sealed for a good, sweet year materially and spiritually." Close examination of the Rayya"tz's words reveals that the Rebbe included in his few words all necessary blessings, both material and spiritual, to the recipient of the blessing and his entire household. What could be better or sweeter than "a good, sweet year materially and spiritually"?
- Another unique aspect of this letter is that each time the blessing is typed in the singular, the Rebbe changes it to plural - "אותו" becomes "אותם, " as well as "ביתם" and "מברכם."
