Controversial Letter Written on a Wedding Invitation from Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Jaffe of Brisk

"Who knows what is hidden in their hearts, and whether or not they will also engage now in their dark deeds"

Wedding invitation and polemic letter from Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Jaffe of Brisk, son of the gaon hagadol Rabbi Mordechai Gimpel Jaffe, av beit din of Ruzhany, and closest associate of the gaon Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. Sent to Rabbi Pinchas Leibush Weber in Jerusalem. Brisk d'Lita, 1909. Singular letter?

Wedding invitation in honor of the marriage of his son Dovber and Chayah Fogelnest scheduled to take place in Warsaw in 1909. Sent to his friend in Jerusalem, Rabbi Pinchas Leibush Weber. He added a letter to it with a personal invitation, and something about the Diskin orphanage and the Ohel Moshe yeshivah. He adds yet another personal invitation with a lot of love and affection.

On the additional blank leaf, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch writes a lengthy polemic letter about the Torah institutions in Jerusalem. He asks the addressee about the Diskin orphanage and the Ohel Moshe yeshivah led by Rabbi Yitzchak Yerucham Diskin, "will they not suffer more from the oppressors and the persecutors ... whether the peace made by the letters from here [probably by Rabbi Chaim of Brisk] is a true peace or only a truncated peace ... We have received a reply letter from the administration of the orphanage's building committee that all the petitioners returned to their places in peace. The mines have been cleared; they apologized for the past, etc. Who knows what is hidden in their hearts, and whether or not they will also engage now in their dark deeds etc. So please let me know in detail ... Maybe it is still necessary to do something about this, the honorable gaon [Rabbi Chaim of Brisk] shlit"a is not at home now because he is travelling ..."

Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch of Brisk and the addressee, Rabbi Yeshayah Pinchas Aryeh Leibush Weber of Jerusalem.
