Hagahot Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Berlin 1862

Hagahot Rabbi Akiva Eiger on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah and Orach Chaim. 2 volumes. Berlin 1862.

2 editions of Hagahot Rabbi Akiva Eiger on the Shulchan Aruch were printed in 1862. One is the one before us which was printed in Berlin by his grandson Rabbi Avraham as its own book. The other was printed by his son Rabbi Itzik Leib, on the page of the Shulchan Aruch printed in Johannesburg. These two editions form the basis for all of the subsequent editions of Hagahot Rabbi Akiva Eiger printed. The Berlin edition was prepared in a more precise manner than the Johannesburg edition, which Rabbi Itzik, Rabbi Akiva Eiger's son copied from the pages of his father's Shulchan Aruch, and published them. His great-grandson writes in the foreword to the edition before us that Rabbi Avraham sent the manuscript to Rabbi Akiva Eiger to be checked, and he amended, removed, and added paragraphs which he did not approve of. After his proofreading, the manuscript was returned to his grandson to be printed, and he printed it in Berlin.
