Discovery: Sma"g. Venice, 1547. Hundreds of Comments by the Maharsh"al Handwritten by his Disciple, the Author of Kaneh Binah, with Differences from the Printed Version!

Sefer Mitzvot Gadol - Sma"g by Rabbi Moshe of Koszyce, with Chiddushei Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi and Rabbi Isaac Stein. Venice, printed at Daniel Bomberg's Home, 1547. Beautiful and important edition, first print of Chiddushei R' Isaac Stein.

Hundreds of glosses handwritten by the gaon, the Kabbalist Rabbi Elazar Perlas-Altschuler, most of which are composed of comments and novellae from his teacher - the Maharsha"l, on the Sma"g. In some of the glosses, there are differences from the wording familiar to us today! There is no need to expound on the tremendous importance of the weight of the precision of one of the greatest commentators of all generations - the Maharsha"l. Already hundreds of years ago, many deliberated which books the Maharsha"l had when he wrote his works, and which he didn't have, with direct implications for his various halachic decisions. There is even more weight to these glosses when we know that they were written by his reliable disciple, who was the first to print the sefer Yam shel Shlomo, with his own addition [!].

250, [2], 251-316 leaf. 31 cm. Antique signatures on the title page, very faded.

The sefer is in fine condition. Artistic restoration on the title page with a photocopy completion of the border. The first three leaves and the last ten leaves have been restored only in the margins. Aging stains. Antique leather-covered wooden binding with buckle marks and metal corners. Reconstructed spine. Placed in a new leather case.
