Manuscript - Responsa by the Maggid of Kozhnitz Regarding the Controversy of the Agunah of Stashuv

Manuscript -"Transcription of sacred writings by the famous gaon, the Chassid ... Rabbi Yisrael ztzukllh"h, Maggid Meisharim of Kozhnitz ... regarding releasing an agunah." [Eastern Europe, c. 1860-1870]. With differences from the printed version.

At the end of the 17th century, a controversy arose about an agunah from the Stashuv community. 'The Maggid' led those who fought to release her, and some rabbinic leaders of the generation (such as the Hafla'ah, Rabbi Ephraim Zalman Margaliot and others), supported his position. On the other side was the mighty gaon 'Rosh HaBarzel' - Rabbi Azriel Horowitz, av beit din of Lublin, who wrote a responsum opposing this position.

This correspondence was printed for the first time in 1880 in the book Agunat Yisrael. This manuscript is different from the printed version. The content of the manuscript has not been closely examined.
