Pair of Sermons for Passover Handwritten by the Mahara"m Schick. Yergen, 1845
Two very lengthy sermons for Passover, covering eight pages, written densely yet very clearly - with over 30,000 words (!) handwritten by the rabbi of the Jewish people, the gaon Rabbi Moshe Schick - Mahara"m Schick. At the beginning of the first derashah, the Mahara"m Schick wrote the place and date it was written: Yergen, 10 Nissan, 1845 - it was apparently written to be delivered on Shabbat HaGadol.
Autograph of Sefer Derashot Mahara"m Schick, in the very hand of the Mahara"m Schick. These derashot were printed word for word in Sefer Derashot Mahara"m Schick (Jerusalem 2003 edition, Part II, Drush 94-95) where it says in the introduction that this pair of sermons (as opposed to others in the book) handwritten by the Mahara"m Schick, were hidden in the library of the ga'ava"d of the Edah HaChareidit, the gaon Rabbi Y. M. Dushinsky.
In the approbation from the author of Shevet HaLevi appearing at the beginning of this edition, he relates that Mahara"m Schick was blind in his later years, and from those years onward, his disciples wrote his Torah novellae. These disciples were specifically designated for this purpose, and they were known as "the king's scribes." These rare derashot here are from his youth (about five years after his teacher, the Chatam Sofer's passing) and they were written entirely by the sacred Mahara"m Schick himself, as stated there in the introduction.
The two sermons here deal with aggadic matters from the Passover Haggadah - the four sons of which the Torah speaks, especially the words of the wise son. The derashah is naturally full of verses of blessing and exaltedness, handwritten by the senior disciple of the Chata"m Sofer, about whom the expression was stated: 'From Moshe (the Chata"m Sofer) to Moshe (the Mahara"m Schick) none arose like Moshe.'
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of Rabbi Moshe Schick - the Mahara"m Schick.
