Historic Letter during the Period of the Holocaust from Chief Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi Herzog. 1941

"I will soon visit the political leaders in Washington with the intent to influence them for the benefit of the Jewish people"

Extremely important historic letter from the gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi Herzog - one of the most prominent leaders of Jewry during the upheaval of the Holocaust. In this letter, he hints at his plan to bomb Auschwitz. New York, Nissan, 1941. Sent to the activist and renowned Torah scholar Rabbi Moshe Ostrovsky.

Emotional and very rare letter, full of historic details - but also very personal, from Rabbi Herzog and his wife. Rabbi Herzog expresses his burning feelings of love of Tziyon: "I never knew what yearning was. Many times in my youth I had to be far away, and I didn't feel yearning because I was immersed in Torah study. But while here I am still immersed in Torah, yet my heart is filled with painful yearning for Tziyon - how powerful is the pull of Tziyon!"

Among other matters discussed in his letter, Rabbi Herzog reveals his plan to travel to Washington and work there for the benefit of the Jewish nation: "I will soon visit the political leaders in Washington with the intent to influence them for the benefit of the Jewish people. May He Who Dwells in Tziyon be at my side." During this visit, Rabbi Herzog met with President Franklin Roosevelt, and recommended he blow up the train tracks leading to Auschwitz.

His wife, Rebbetzin Sarah, daughter of Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchak Hillman, added several lines in her hand and with her signature.
