Set of Midrash Rabbah with the Zhidichover Rebbe's Commentary - Segulah for Protection. First Edition

Sefer Midrash Rabbah al Chamishah Chumshei Torah V'Chamesh Meggilot with 'Peirush Mahari"a' by the Admo"r Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac of Zhidichov. Lvov, 1874-5. First edition.

Four parts in three volumes:

Part I - Bereishit: [3], 136 leaf. Lacking the first title page. Bound with:

Part II - Shemot, Vayikra: 67; 54 leaf. Lacking two title pages and the last leaf.

Part III - Bamidbar, Devarim: 3-91; 26 leaf. Lacking the (only) title page and the two following leaves. Bound with:

Part IV - Chamesh Meggilot: [2], 136 leaf.

On the title page: 'Peirush Mahari"a ... per Kabbalah and deep Torah secrets.' The Vilna Gaon is known to have said that books on Kabbalah are the nigleh shebanistar - that is, they are clearly dealing with hidden matters. However, midrashim are nistar shebanistar where the secrets are garbed in stories; they are in fact more veiled than books on Kabbalah. This is a unique Kabbalistic commentary by one of the leading Kabbalists among the Admo"rim.

Part I opens with a foreword by the author's six sons and sons-in-law, who write, "Take a heavenly blessing into your homes. It will be a protection, a reminder of goodness and blessing, and the merit of the Admo"r ztzlh"h will protect you and your children ..."
