The journal to which the best of the Hebrew writers and publicists contributed, those who were dissatisfied with the existing leaders of Zionism and the Yishuv, and also from the first signs of the British government’s distancing itself from its commitments to the Jewish National Home, among them were: Prof. Y. Klausner, Dr. A. Y. Brauer, A. Y. Shachrai, S. Tchernowitz, Mordechai Ben Hillel HaCohen, A. HaMeiri, Y. Karni, A.M. Lifshitz, S. Schwartz, D. Kimchi, M. Carmon and others. The weekly “HaMishmar” was the only newspaper that responded at the time vigorously to the removal of the east side of the Jordan from the Jewish National Home, and dedicated a large issue to this subject to which many important writers and publicists contributed.
The editor, Aharon Ze’ev Ben-Yishai, was one of the best of the writers and publicists in Jerusalem (included is material about him).
