Volume of Seder Moed Talmud Bavli, magnificent Berlin edition including Tractates: Sukkah, Beitzah, Shekalim and Megillah. Dedicated title page for each tractate. Some of the title pages are in red and black ink. Julius Saitenfeld Press. Berlin, 1867.
The margins of the sheets of this gemara and the sheets with the commentaries bear many dozens of glosses and novellae, consisting of hundreds of lines. The writer's identity is unknown, yet the form and style of writing demonstrate that he is a first-rate Talmudic scholar. The content of the novellae has not been examined in-depth, and may reveal discoveries.
This magnificent edition was printed with 'Rash"i's commentary, Tosafot, Piskei Tosafot, Rabbeinu Asher, Piskei HaRo"sh, and Peirush HaMishnayot L'HaRamba"m, z"l, and all sorts of other virtues as printed in Amsterdam and Frankfurt am Main, nothing from those is absent here, with the Maharsha"l, the Maharsh"a and Mahara"m. And now, Torat Chaim adorns it with glosses and various revisions as follows: 1) Glosses and revisions by the Ba"ch and the Levush; 2) by the famous true gaon Rabbi Yeshayah Pick, ztz"l, as printed in Dyhernfurth; 3) by the famous true gaon Rabbeinu Yechezkel Segal Landau ztzl"h and the revisions by the great gaon Rabbi Betzalel Rashenberg n"e, as printed in Prague; 4) by the famous true gaon Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna, ztzl"h and his glosses on the Ro"sh as indicated by (נ"ב); 5) from the famous true gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger ztzl"h. And we printed Ma'adanei Yom Tov and Pilpula Charifta on the Ro"sh, as well as Korban Netanel and Ta"sh; nothing is lacking; it has been carefully proofread by Rabbi Nachman Avraham Goldberg."
When this Talmud was being printed, every time the word "ישועה" ["salvation"] appears, one of the workers at the press (possibly an apostate Jew) left out the ה, so, for example, instead of printing "צפית לישועה" what appears instead is "צפית לישוע"! May Hashem save us!
