Letter from R'Michel Tukachinsky to the Turkish Commander of Jerusalem Regarding Aid that Arrived from America During WWI for the Poor in the Land

Letter from Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky to the Turkish Commander of Jerusalem regarding aid sent from America for the poor in the Land of Israel during WWI. (For a discussion of the background and the circumstances under which this letter was written, refer to the Hebrew catalog text.)

R' Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky was deeply involved in saving the city in those harsh years. In this letter, he reveals the horrific situation in the city to the Turkish commander of Jerusalem, both of the public and of private individuals. He goes on to relate that the Zionists appropriated the ship sent by American Jews with food and goods designated for the starving Jews of Jerusalem, and explains that if the distribution remains in the hands of the Zionists, the condition of the city's poor will be absolutely devastating!
