2 Pre-Columbian Ceramic Miniature Vessels - Two small ceramic vessels of Central or South American origin. The first is an earthenware anthropomorphic vessel formed as a human head with a flared rim. The face is modeled with recessed circular eyes, a prominent nose, and a small mouth. It features a light orange-buff slip with traces of red pigment. The second object is a burnished grey and brown earthenware tripod vessel of globular form. The exterior is decorated with incised geometric patterns including chevrons and vertical bands. The top features a small circular orifice and three small pointed feet support the base. 1 7/8” x 1 7/8” and 2” x 1 1/2”. From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
