Antique Asian Filigree Paktong and Bamboo Smoking Pipe - Antique Asian long-stemmed smoking pipe, Chinese or Tibetan origin. The piece is constructed of two detachable metal-clad sections with an internal bamboo structure. The decoration features extensive wirework and filigree throughout. The most prominent ornament is a decorative peacock mounted to the curved section, featuring a fanned tail with spiral wire patterns and a crested head. The stem sections are encased in sleeves decorated with raised plum blossom and diamond-shaped motifs, bordered by braided wire bands. The mouthpiece terminates in a slightly curved, threaded tip. The central joint reveals the interior bamboo core. 25 1/2” L.  From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
