Isaiah Thomas Laid Paper The Massachusetts Spy Or American Oracle Of Liberty Newspaper - Isaiah Thomas (American, 1749-1831). Revolutionary War era newspaper, The Massachusetts Spy, Or, American ORACLE of Liberty, Volume V, Number 219, dated Wednesday, May 3, 1775. Printed on laid paper with a three-column layout, the masthead features decorative scrollwork, woodcut illustrations, and the slogan ”Americans!---Liberty or Death!---Join or Die!” This specific issue is the first printed in Worcester following the relocation of the press from Boston and includes early reports on the Battles of Lexington and Concord. The verso, visible through the frame's back glass, contains provincial congress reports and local advertisements. The front page bears an ink inscription at the lower right reading, ”This News-paper is the first thing ever printed in Worcester – Isaiah Thomas,” followed by his signature. The bottom left margin of the first page includes the printed publisher's imprint for Isaiah Thomas in Worcester. 18 1/2” H x 22 1/2” W x 7/8” D.
