5 Southeast Asian Cast Bronze Elephant and Cobra Weights - Five Southeast Asian cast bronze animal figurines traditionally used as trade weights, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. The collection consists of one cobra and four elephants of graduating sizes, representing sacred Naga and elephant iconography. Each piece is cast in a copper alloy with a dark, oxidized patina. The cobra is modeled in a coiled position with a flared hood, while the elephants are standing on tiered circular or octagonal bases. The figures exhibit stylized anatomical details characteristic of regional Burmese or Thai craftsmanship. Largest: 1 3/4” H x 1 3/8” W x 1” D. From the personal collection of Peter Benchley (American, 1940–2006), acclaimed author of Jaws, accomplished diver, and prominent advocate for ocean and shark conservation.
