2 Marine Exploration Reference Books from Peter Benchley's Personal Library - Two hardcover volumes on mid-century marine exploration and shark research. Jacques-Yves Cousteau (French, 1910-1997) and Theo W. Brown. The first volume is The Living Sea by Captain J. Y. Cousteau with James Dugan, published by Harper & Row in 1963. The second title is SHARKS—The Search for a Repellent by Theo W. Brown. Both books feature their original pictorial dust jackets over publisher's cloth-covered boards. The Cousteau volume includes twenty-four pages of color photographs that originally appeared in National Geographic Magazine. The volume by Theo Brown contains numerous illustrations and photographs documenting research into shark behavior and deterrents. 9 3/4” H x 6 3/4” W x 1 1/8” D.
