Jacobean Carved Oak Storage Chest - Jacobean carved oak storage chest or coffer, featuring characteristic 17th century decorative motifs. The joined furniture piece is constructed with a pegged frame housing three front panels. The top rail is decorated with a continuous carved lunette pattern above two flanking panels carved with central foliate lozenge motifs. The central stile displays a vertical foliate carving, and the stiles and rails feature notch-carved borders. The heavy oak plank lid is attached with wrought iron hinges, opening to a single compartment with a lidded candle box, or till, at the upper left. The front is fitted with a substantial wrought iron lock plate and a decorative shaped escutcheon. 20 1/2” H x 43 1/2” W x 18” D.
