Bidspirit auction | Kerman Style Wool Persian Rug

Kerman Style Wool Persian Rug 12 x 18 Feet - Large Kerman Style Persian rug. Hand-knotted wool pile on a cotton foundation. The monumental rug features a central polylobed floral medallion set within a densely patterned field of scrolling vines, palmettes, and floral sprays. The central medallion is surrounded by elaborate floral motifs that extend to the corners of the field. The design is rendered in deep burgundy and navy blue tones with accents of cream, rose, and light blue. The composition is framed by a wide border system including a primary cream-ground border with repeating floral and leaf motifs and multiple decorative guard stripes. The border stripes provide additional detail and transition between the dark tones of the field and the lighter primary border. Hand-knotted construction creates a dense textile, although the pile shows significant wear. Unsigned. 12 x 18 1/2 feet. From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
