A Pair of John Widdicomb Parquetry Semainiers - A pair of John Widdicomb seven-drawer tall chests. The chests are designed in the Louis XV revival style, featuring mahogany and fruitwood veneers arranged in a book-matched geometric diamond parquetry pattern on the drawer fronts and side panels, further accented by ebonized corner trim and tops. The secondary wood of the drawer sides is quarter-sawn oak, which displays prominent medullary ray patterns, and the drawers are constructed with dovetail joinery. Ornamental cast metal hardware includes ring pulls with laurel wreath backplates, foliate chutes at the upper corners, and sabots on the cabriole legs. One chest retains a manufacturer label to the top drawer; the other chest's label has been partially removed. 51” H x 14” W x 11” D.
