A Pair of Hand Painted Porcelain Plaques Signed E. Millet - A matching pair of oval porcelain plaques featuring hand painted historical genre scenes. Each plaque depicts figures in 17th-century attire including doublets, breeches, and ruffs. The first plaque shows a confrontation in a courtyard where one man lies on the ground while others look on, including a standing figure holding a rapier and a firearm. The second plaque depicts a nighttime sword duel in a snowy landscape before a stone gateway and turreted buildings. Both plaques are signed by the artist E. Millet in the lower right area of the painted field. The porcelain plaques are mounted within fabric covered mats and set into rectangular gilded gesso frames decorated with repeating foliate and scroll patterns. The reverse of one plaque shows an unglazed white porcelain body held in place by metal clips. Plaques: 7 x 9 in. Frames: 15 x 18 in. Location: Bin 4
