Antique Tulip Quilt from 1853 by Susan Thompson
Tulip quilt - hand sewn edges, some staining and discoloration. 89" x 86"
Hand sewn, inside is a fabric label which reads, "Tulip Quilt - This quilt was made in 1853 by Susan Thompson (age 20) who married Garrison Kennard - grandparents of Irene Fisher Gaffin to whom it was given at the death of Susan Kennard on May 29, 1911 at the age of 79. It was given to Princess Gaffin Williamson, daughter of Irene, before the death of Irene. It is owned by Carol Williamson Musser - great, great granddaughter of Susan Thompson Kennard. The red part was replaced in October 1954 by Irene Fisher Gaffin at age 73." This is written in black marker as well on inside of top right corner.
Please note: Quilts are in antique and vintage condition and have not been washed. Stains and marks may come out with washing but since they are hand sewn and delicate due to age cleaning was not done. Quilts are listed in as-is condition and described as accurately as possible.
Condition: Notice to bidders: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition. Photos are considered part of the condition report. Complete condition information is available by request, please request no later than 24 hours prior to the auction. All lots are offered and sold "as is", and Willow Auctions will not provide refunds based on condition. Timepiece movements, lighting and electrics have not been tested, and art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated.
