A Kirk Douglas Signed Letter to Agent Charles Feldman. - (Douglas, 1958) A typed letter from Kirk Douglas to movie producer and super-agent Charles Feldman, dated February 10, 1958. Typed on Douglas' personal stationery and signed by the actor, the letter informs his longtime agent Feldman that he is leaving Famous Artists Agency for MCA and has been unhappy for some time, expressing hope that the change will help and also improve their strained friendship. The letter and original envelope are stapled to an inter-office 1957 memo from Famous Artists employee Harry Sokolov to Feldman regarding a contract Douglas submitted to the agency that would release him from financial obligations regarding the films ”Indian Fighter, ” ”Paths of Glory, ” ”Man Without a Star, ” and ”The Vikings.” Also attached is a carbon copy of a typed letter from Feldman to Douglas dated March 26, 1957, in which the agent reminds Douglas that he went back on his word regarding commissions for ”Man Without a Star, ” even after Feldman had voluntarily forgone money owed to him when Douglas was experiencing financial difficulties. These documents chronicle the downfall of a long-standing Hollywood relationship over money. Ranging in size from 7.25” x 10.25” to 8.5” x 11”, the paper correspondences display in very good condition, with edge wear, creases, handling wear, intentional holes, and spots of discoloration on the envelope.
