German WWII Luftwaffe Dagger - First model Luftwaffe dagger, 18” long, with a 12” blade. The pommel and hilt are nickel silver, and both feature a rounded swastika emblem. The hilt features triple-segmented quillions swept towards the blade, which is marked about an inch from the tang: ”Robt Klaas, Solingen”, beneath an image of two kissing cranes. The grip is covered with blue leather, which shows signs of wear, and is wrapped with braided silver wire. The blade shows some running marks, and the nickel plating is lightly pitted about 2” from the tip, which is intact and sharp. The dagger includes a scabbard, 13 1/2” long, with well-tarnished nickel silver fittings. The flathead screws securing the fittings are all present and intact. The leather of the scabbard is moderately scratched and worn, with some slight peeling along the underside along its natural seam. The chain hanger is present and intact, and the clasp is marked: ”Ges. Gesgn.” above ”OLC” in an oblong diamond. The dagger also features a silver cord portapee, which is slightly tarnished and fraying along its length. Good.
