Ilya Tolstoy Clipped Signature
Ilya Tolstoy Rare Dual AQS & Clipped Signature
Ilya Tolstoy Rare Dual AQS & Clipped Signature
A sentence in Tolstoy's hand which he translated into English reading in full
"Translation:/From a free Russian/To a religion of the/greatest democracy. /Ilya Tolstoy" measuring 8.5" x 11.5", dated January 23, 1918, New York. Accompanied by a bonus
clipped signature signed "Count Ilya Tolstoy" affixed along the bottom edge of the page.
Both pieces are mounted to a larger sheet taken from an autograph album, with several
other miscellaneous signatures on verso, exhibiting stiffness from adhesive. General toning and creasing throughout, with minor soiling in places. Overall very good- a rare pairing!
Count Ilya Lvovich Tolstoy (1866-1933) was a Russian writer and the second son of Leo
Tolstoy. Starting in 1916, Ilya would begin a tour of the United States in which he lectured on his father's life and works, later choosing to settle in Southbury, Connecticut following the Bolsheviks' rise to power in 1917.
