Imperial German Navy Officer Bicorn Hat. - Imperial German Navy Officer Bicorn Hat. Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) Officer's ”Fore and Aft Hat” (Befürchtet-und-Achtern Hut). The Imperial German Navy ( Kaiserliche Marine ) was the navy created at the time of the formation of the German Empire. It existed between 1871 and 1919, growing out of the small Prussian Navy (from 1867 the North German Federal Navy), which primarily had the mission of coastal defence. Kaiser Wilhelm II greatly expanded the navy, and enlarged its mission. Great War ‘Fore and Aft’ Bicorn hat for an officer in the Imperial German Navy, circa 1910. Black beaver pelt , trimmed in black silk band that has wire bullion to each end. A black-white and red pleated silk cockade is present under the twisted bullion wire. A large, gilt button is also present. Silk lining with leather sweatband showing signs of wear at the front. Roughly a size 55/56. Behind the leather sweatband there was a manufacturer's business card: HOFFMEISTER MARINE-JNTENDANTUR-ASSESSOR This is a wonderful presentation, and a must for a Navy collection. VERY IMPORTANT !!!
