The brooch was made of 875/1000 silver in St. Petersburg in a factory owned by Fiedor Andreyev Wierchovtsv. Hand-made, the stones are most likely rubies. Федор Андреевич Верховцев (1804-1867), in English Fedor Andreevich Verkhovtsev - jeweler, owner of a silverware factory in St. Petersburg, (supplier of His Imperial Majesty's court). Born in May 1804 in the family of a poor goldsmith Andrey Verkhovtsev.At the age of 8 he was given to study goldsmith Salantiev. In 1819 he organizedhis own factory of silverware. The workshop was originally located in Alferov'shouse No. 18 on Troitsky lane. At the age of 24 he received the title of masterof the silver workshop, according to some sources in 1826 or 1835.For presented, in 1831, at the First All-Russian Manufactory Exhibition in Moscow, works of church utensils was awarded a small silver medal. For the works of his factory presented in 1839 at the exhibition ”Russian Manufactured Products”, he was awarded a gold medal. Since 1840 he joined the Merchant Guild.In 1847 he was elected an assessor of the Crafts Council, made significantdonations for the home of poor and elderly artisans. Participated in exhibitionsin London - the Great Exhibition of Industrial Works of All Nations (1851) andthe World Exhibition (1862). For the presented work he was awarded a large medal. In 1859, at a reception on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of Empress Maria Alexandrovna, he was presented with an icon, for which he was honored to receive a diamond ring. In 1863 he expressed sympathy for the maintenance of churches in the Western Region, for which he received the Order of Anna, III degree.Since 1861 he was a member of the committee and head of the women's department of the orphanage of the Prince of Oldenburg.Assisted the orphanage with cash contributions, food, linen, and in drawing upscholarships. For this activity he was awarded the Order of Oldenburg. He alsoprovided assistance to the Mariinsky Women's School. He was a patron of theAlexander Nevsky charity house, his name was commemorated in the church of the icon of the Mother of God ”Bogolyubskaya. Died on December 31, 1867.
