Adolf Hitler Signed Letter - Historically Significant
Historically significant typed letter, signed in ink by Hitler during his stay at the Berlin Hotel Sanssouci, dated 3 April 1930. The letter is from the early “Kampfzeit” or “fighting time” period prior to the party’s rise to power when Hitler had the title of 1st chairman of the NSDAP. It’s written to the Presidium of the Reich Committee for the German referendum and roughly translates to;“The NSDAP joined the Reich Committee on the condition that there was a sharp fight against the “Young Plan”. If the party remained in the Reich Committee after the referendum was concluded, this could only make sense in the event that this fight was continued ... Since the German National People's Party has now expressed its confidence in these parties, the continued membership of the NSDAP on the Reich Committee has become pointless. I therefore have the honor to announce to the Presidium that the NSDAP is leaving the Reich Committee. The “Young Plan” was a program created with the purpose of negotiating down the unrealistic sanctions set forth by the Treaty of Versailles after Germany’s defeat in World War I. The treaty was devastating to Germany and their economy and The Young Plan would have significantly decreased the hardships on the country. Hitler despised the Treaty of Versailles and was adamant on fully abandoning the treaty sanctions instead of accepting the new negotiated terms of the Young Plan. As Chairman of the NSDAP, Hitler and other right wing party leaders had proposed a new 'Freedom Law' as an alternative to the Young Plan. The proposed 'Freedom Law' renounced all reparations and made it a criminal offense for any official to cooperate with their collection. While the “Freedom Law” that Hitler supported failed to pass, it gained a surprising amount of attention in the media and gave the party and AH free publicity. Hitler soon became a household name in Germany, campaigning with the mainstream right-wing parties and giving him the credibility he had lacked before. Three years after this letter was written, Hitler and the NSDAP took over complete control of Germany and secretly began rearmament, breaking a major sanction of the treaty, along with many others. This letter foreshadowed what was to come — Hitler's defiance and disregard of the Treaty of Versailles which resulted in the start of the Second World War. Some additional interesting info regarding this letter;* Hitler traveled from Berchtesgaden to Berlin on March 30, 1930 to take part in a conference held in Hermann Göring's office, scheduled for April 1. This meeting addressed the dissolution of the Reichstag. Hitler remained in Berlin until April 4th, staying at the Hotel Sanssouci and where he wrote this letter on his final night at the hotel. This letter was acquired from the world renowned collection of Bernhard Doering. Doering lived in Heidelberg, Germany and after the war amassed an enormous amount of historically important documents, autographs, and artifacts. He passed away several years ago and the collection was liquidated.***Postcard shown in first photo is not included***
