German Imperial 1000 Mark Reichsbanknote, Berlin 1910 - A 1000 Mark Reichsbanknote issued by the Reichsbank, dated Berlin, 21 April 1910, serial number Nr 4178801 G. The note reads ”Reichsbanknote. Ein Tausend Mark” with printed signatures of the Reichsbankdirektorium below the date, flanked by two orange eagle seals. The reverse side carries the same serial number and features a large imperial eagle crest flanked by two classically draped allegorical female figures within an ornamental border. This denomination was part of the large-format Reichsbanknote series issued in the years preceding and during the First World War, when such high-value notes circulated widely amid rising wartime and postwar inflation in Germany. This 1000 Mark note belongs to the standard Reichsbank currency series of Wilhelmine Germany, printed under the authority of the Reichsbankdirektorium in Berlin. Issued in 1910, it circulated through the First World War, a period during which Germany suspended the gold standard and increasingly financed the war effort through debt and expanded note issuance. Denominations of this size, though substantial in prewar terms, became progressively devalued as wartime and early postwar inflation accelerated, foreshadowing the hyperinflation that would culminate in 1923.
