German Third Reich 1939 Reichsparteitag Nürnberg Festpostkarte - A commemorative postcard issued for the planned 1939 Reichsparteitag des Friedens (Party Rally of Peace) at Nürnberg, scheduled for 2-11 September 1939. The front bears a printed image of a medallion depicting a seated female figure with a child and sheaves of wheat, surmounted by an eagle and wreathed swastika, with the inscription ”REICHSPARTEITAG” and the date ”1939” around the border. The reverse carries an integral 6 Pfennig Deutsches Reich postage stamp depicting a uniformed figure, along with printed text identifying it as a ”Festpostkarte” issued centrally by the NSDAP, Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Fr. Eher Nachf., München. This rally was ultimately cancelled following the outbreak of war on 1 September 1939, making surviving printed materials for the planned event a distinct category of ephemera from the period. The 1939 Reichsparteitag des Friedens was to be the tenth annual Nuremberg rally staged by the NSDAP, following the pattern established from 1933 as mass propaganda spectacles combining party congresses, military displays, and choreographed demonstrations of popular support for the regime. The chosen title, ”Rally of Peace, ” reflected the regime's public rhetoric in the months before the invasion of Poland, even as preparations for war were underway. Its cancellation on the eve of the German attack on Poland meant that promotional and commemorative material already printed for the event, such as this postcard produced by the party's central publishing house, Fr. Eher Nachfolger, was never distributed for its intended purpose, leaving such items as a distinct wartime cancellation artefact rather than ordinary rally memorabilia.
