German DRA Bronze Sports Badge (DRA-Sportabzeichen) - A bronze-grade German National Sports Badge (Deutsches Reichsabzeichen für Leibesübungen) featuring the interlaced ”DRA” cipher within an oak leaf wreath. The badge is die-struck in relief with a finish appearing to be gilt over bronze. The DRA badge was awarded by the German Reich Committee for Physical Exercise to individuals who met set standards in athletics, swimming, and other physical disciplines, with the design remaining largely consistent through the Weimar and early Third Reich periods. The Deutsches Reichsabzeichen für Leibesübungen was established in 1913 under the Deutscher Reichsausschuss für Leibesübungen to promote general physical fitness, requiring recipients to pass tests in athletics, swimming, and other disciplines across bronze, silver, and gold grades according to performance level. It continued to be awarded through the Weimar Republic and into the Nazi era, when it became integrated into the broader state fitness and pre-military training programs, before being superseded in 1942 by the Reichssportabzeichen. Holders included both civilians and members of sporting clubs, and the badge was widely worn as a mark of athletic achievement rather than military or political service.
