French ”Blason de France” Champagne Perrier-Jouët Keyring Medal with Saint Christopher - A circular keyring medal in what appears to be silvered metal, one face bearing a raised relief image of Saint Christopher carrying the Christ child and staff, the reverse (obverse face) enameled with a quartered heraldic shield in blue, red, and white, inscribed around the rim ”CHAMPAGNE PERRIER JOUET” and ”BLASON DE FRANCE.” The shield includes fleur-de-lis, a stylized sunburst, and diagonal banding motifs. A chain links the medal to a split keyring. Perrier-Jouët, a Champagne house founded in Épernay in 1811, produced small promotional items such as this keyring medal for distribution to clients and associates. The Saint Christopher imagery reflects a mid-20th-century French tradition of pairing the patron saint of travelers with keyrings and automotive talismans. Saint Christopher medals of this type became popular in France from the 1950s onward as protective talismans for motorists, often distributed by commercial firms as promotional keepsakes for clients and business associates. Perrier-Jouët, a Champagne house established in Épernay in 1811, used such giveaways as part of its branded promotional material for the trade. The ”Blason de France” heraldic motif reflects a broader mid-century French fashion for evoking regional and national heraldry in decorative and commemorative small goods.
