German NSDAP Long Service Award Medal - German NSDAP Long Service Award Medal, 3rd Class This decoration was awarded to members of the National Socialist party organizations for years of service, with the design tier and ribbon color denoting the length of membership. The cross form seen here, with radiating sunburst arms and a raised central roundel, was struck in a gilt-finish metal. The obverse depicts the party eagle clutching a wreathed swastika, while the reverse roundel carries the motto ”Treue für Führer und Volk” (”Loyalty to Führer and People”) encircled by a wreath. A fixed suspension ring at the top of the piece allowed it to be worn from a ribbon. The Treudienst-Ehrenzeichen (Faithful Service Decoration) was instituted in 1938 to recognize long service to the German state and party apparatus rather than combat service, with awards typically made after 10, 25, and 40 years of employment in public administration, party organizations, or affiliated institutions. The 3rd Class, in silver-toned or gilt metal depending on tier conventions, was the most commonly issued grade, reflecting the baseline service qualification. Recipients included civil servants, teachers, and administrative personnel whose careers predated the Nazi period, as the award was structured to co-opt existing bureaucratic loyalty rather than reward Party membership alone.
