German Third Reich 25 Year Faithful Service Medal - German Third Reich 25-Year Faithful Service Cross This decoration belongs to the Third Reich civil service long-service award series, instituted to recognize extended employment in state and municipal administration. The obverse displays the central swastika flanked by oak leaf sprays at each junction of the cross arms, while the reverse reads ”Für treue Dienste.” Long-service crosses were issued in tiers for 25, 40, and other qualifying years of service, with this example corresponding to the 25-year grade based on its size and design. Such awards were produced in large numbers throughout the 1930s and into the war years, presented to career civil servants, teachers, and municipal employees as state recognition of tenure rather than military distinction. The Faithful Service decorations were established in 1938, consolidating and standardising earlier Weimar-era and regional long-service awards into a uniform Reich system administered under Nazi state authority. They were awarded to civil servants, officials, and public employees to mark uninterrupted years of service to the state, with higher grades (40 years) taking precedence over the 25-year cross. Recipients ranged from municipal clerks and postal workers to teachers and administrators, reflecting the regime's broader effort to bind the civil service apparatus to the National Socialist state through symbolic recognition of loyalty and tenure.
