Der Stürmer was a weekly newspaper founded by Julius Streicher in 1923 and published through the era of the Third Reich, functioning as a propaganda organ built around virulent antisemitic content in both text and caricature. Issues such as this one were widely distributed and displayed publicly, including in dedicated street-corner display cases, making the paper one of the most visible instruments of Nazi antisemitic messaging of the period. Surviving copies are studied today as primary source material for the history of Nazi propaganda and the persecution of Jews in Germany. Der Stürmer was founded in 1923 by Julius Streicher and became notorious for its virulently antisemitic caricatures and articles, which it published continuously until the collapse of Nazi Germany in 1945. Though not an official Nazi Party organ, it enjoyed the patronage of senior party figures and circulated widely, serving as a key instrument of racial propaganda aimed at dehumanising Jewish people in the public consciousness. Streicher was tried at Nuremberg after the war and convicted of crimes against humanity largely on the basis of the paper's content, for which he was executed in 1946. Surviving issues are studied today as primary source material for understanding the mechanisms of Nazi propaganda and the persecution that preceded the Holocaust.
