Adolf Hitler Lifesize Oil Painting Portrait by Famous Artist Conrad Hommel - Original Adolf Hitler by famous German artist Conrad Hommel in 1939. Incredible and historic oil painting done by famous German artist Conrad Hommel in 1939. This famous Hitler pose, standing with his left hand on hip and other resting at his side was first painted in 1937 by artist Heinrich Knirr. Knirr’s painting became the official portrait of Adolf Hitler for 1937. In the following years other German artists recreated this pose in some of their works. This particular oil painting was done in 1939 by Conrad Hommel and measures 31 inches x 40 inches . It remains stapled to its original wood stretcher. The original frame it sat in is gone, but three small trim pieces (probably original) border the edge of the painting with the bottom piece missing. It appears someone may have removed this bottom piece to expose the year ‘39 as it was initially covered. The size of the painting and being a Conrad Hommel would indicate this was a commissioned piece for a government building or privately for a very wealthy person. It came directly out of Germany this year, from a small town north of Hamburg and has bounced around a few collections over the years, so the history of how it was originally acquired or where it was originally displayed is not known. Conrad Hommel (16 February 1883 – 11 November 1971) was a German painter. He was best known for his portraits of leading German entrepreneurs such as Max Grundig, Herbert Quandt, and politicians such as Adolf Hitler, Hermann Göring and Paul von Hindenburg.
