Adolf Hitler Marble Bust by Josef Thorak - 1 of 2 Known Examples - Extremely rare, practically unobtainable and the second known in the world - a sculpture by Josef Thorak, made of marble, depicting the Führer - Adolf Hitler. The height of the bust is 57cm, the weight of the object is nearly 100 kg. With Arno Breker, he became one of the two ”official sculptors” of the Third Reich. In 1937, he was named professor of sculpture at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts; in 1939, Hitler decreed that a studio should be built for him in Baldham to Albert Speer’s design. The sculpture of such an artist was probably in the edifice of a very important official or chancellery - this is hard to determine. The sculpture was purchased almost 30 years ago from the sale of movie studio props. The film studio was known for its series about fictional stories from the Second World War. They had many original items took right after the war into their magazines. For this reason, it has catalog numbers on the back. The bust was completely and professionally cleaned after almost 80 years. All of the missings and damages have been restored carefully without touching the original marble. Cavities were filled with aliphatic resin so as not to grind or improve the original stone. The most important aspect here is restoration of part of the nose. The base of it has been replenished. The new part of nose was refinished based on its curves from the remains. This is definitely not its final form, but due to the lack of availability of sculptors in Poland who could restore the nose with dignity - I leave it to the gesture of the future buyer. In such a situation when the base is already present, the selection of the appropriate curve of Hitler’s nose will already be a trifle for a skilled artist’s hand. For interested person I can provide photos of the bust before restoration. This item ships from Poland. Due to size and weight, it will be shipped freight via UPS or FedEx.
