Invitation sent by Rav Hillel Witkind to the Chazon Ish to the wedding of Rav Mordechai Mann.

Invitation sent by Rabbi Hillel Witkind, a founder of the Novardok Yeshivah in Poland and later Rosh Yeshivah of Beis Yosef in Tel Aviv, to his daughter’s marriage ceremony with Rav Mordechai Mann. The wedding took place on the 12th of Tishrei, 1944, in Tel Aviv.

  • This invitation was sent to the Chazon Ish, the shadchan that suggested the match.

To evade the Polish draft, the groom, Rav Mordechai Mann, moved to Eretz Israel in 1939, where he studied in the Lomza Yeshivah in Petach Tikvah, under the tutelage of Rav Reuven Katz. At the same time, he drew close to the Chazon Ish, who suggested a match: Miriam, the daughter of Rav Hillel Witkind, Rosh Yeshivah of Beis Yosef in Tel Aviv.
After his marriage, Rav Mann lectured in his father-in-law’s yeshivah. When the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel HaTorah was established in 1989, he was invited by Rav Elazar Menachem Shach to join it. He authored the Divrei Mordechai series on the Talmud and merited to raise a Torah-true family, with all his sons serving as Roshei Yeshivah in various institutions.
