Rav Yisrael Yaakov Algazi (1680-1757) was the son of Rav Yom Tov. He moved to Yerushalayim in 1737. He was a leading dayan and marbitz Torah in Yerushalayim, a Rosh Yeshivah in the kabalistic Beis El Yeshivah in the times of Rav Gedalya Chiyun and the Rashash. In 1756, he was appointed rav of Yerushalayim. His works include; S
halmei Tzibbur, Shema Yaakov and more. His disciples included the Chida and his famed son, the Maharit Algazi.
