Lithuanian Torah Giants. Letter from Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro, Rosh Yeshivah Volozhin. Letter of appreciation and brachos for a donor by Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro, av”d and r”m Volozhin. Kislev, 1930. Typewritten on a letterhead with some handwritten words and his signature. Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro (1873-1936) was the son of Rabbi Refael and grandson of the Netziv. He learned Torah by his great brother-in-law, Rabbi Chaim of Brisk. After World War I, he reestablished Volozhin and served as rav of the city. He left behind many manuscripts of halachic responsa and explanations of sugyos throughout the Torah that were destroyed by the Nazis. The little that was salvaged was printed under the title Gaon Yaakov. Volozhin, Kislev 1930. 27 cm. Light tears in the folds.
