Sofer Family. Personal letter from Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer, author of Yalkut Sofer, to Rabbi Mordechai Yehudah Lowe, av”d Interdam. Lengthy letter in learning written and signed by the Yalkut Sofer, Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer, son of Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer, to Rabbi Mordechai Yehudah Lowe of Interdam. The letter opens with a request to be remembered during the holy days and to pray that he merit a child, “ Because nine years have passed since my marriage to the Rebbetzin and …” Rabbi Yosef Leib signs with his name, the name of his father and mother and the name of his wife and her mother. Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer, av”d דערעטשקע and Paks (1861-1918) was the son of Rabbi Eliezer Zussman Sofer av”d Paks. He was a talmid of his father, the Shevet Sofer and Rabbi Moshe Halevi Pollak, av”d Bonyhad. In 1885, he started serving as av”d דערעטשקע and, in 1903, he took over his father’s position in Paks. He was renowned for his works; two volumes of Likutei Sofer on the mitzvos and the five-volume Yalkut Sofer on the Torah. ******** דערעטשקע, 1892. [1] leaf, ends mid-paragraph. 23x29 cm.
