Lithuanian Torah Giants. Letter from the Rav of Riga- Rav Menachem Mendel Dov Ber Zack, While Serving in the קאנדאו Rabbinate. Handwritten and signed letter from Rav Menachem Mendel Dov Ber Zack, to the heads of the Shaarei Chessed Gmach in Jerusalem- among them Rav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld. Regarding a donation from an honorable wealthy lady from קאנדאו, who requested that they pray for her speedy recovery- at the Western Wall. Rav Menachem Mendel Dov Ber Zack- (5631 [1871] - 5702 [1941]) A disciple of the Beis Halevi, he was appointed in his early years as Av Beis Din of קנדאו, and after 15 years as Rav of Riga. There, he established his well-known yeshiva. In 5692, after the passing of Rav Yosef Chaim Zonnenfeld, a letter from the Rabbinate was given to him- requesting him to replace Rav Zonnenfeld; however, this did not occur in the end. When the Ohr Sameach lied on his deathbed, he gave Rav Menachem Mendel all his writings- from them, he brought the following to print: The last volume of ”Ohr Sameach” and the Meshech Chochmah. Rav Menachem Mendel was murdered by Nazi firing, as he stood wrapped in his Tallis on the steps of the Jewish Community building in Riga. Kandau 5662 [1902]. Folded page. 3 page-sides. 13x21 cm.
