Letter of Torah Novellae from Rabbi Yaakov Meir Ragoler – Kaminetzky to the author of Pardes Rimonim. Vilna [1854].

Lengthy letter of Torah novellae from Rabbi Yaakov Meir Kaminetzky, the “Ragoler, ”  to Rabbi Yitzchak Avigdor, av”d Kovno, author of the Pardes Rimonim. Vilna, 1854.

Rabbi Yaakov Meir Kaminetzky (d. 11th of Elul, 1901) was a humble, Torah genius. His comments on the Shu”t Noda B’Yehuda were printed alongside the hagahot of the foremost Torah scholars of the generations in the Vilna edition of the Noda B’Yehudah. Originally from ראגולי, he later settled in Vilna. In ראגולי, he was a childhood friend of the Aderet and when Rav Shmuel Salant offered him the Jerusalem rabbinate, he turned to him (the letter was published in Shivim Shanah Biyerushalayim, p. 78). The Aderet also wrote about this episode in his Nefesh David, and called Rav Yaakov Meir "My soul friend for decades…"

Rabbi Shlomo Gordon, av”d דרוגזעניק, eulogized him in his Binyan Shlomo and wrote: HaGaon Rabbi Yaakov Meir Ragoler never accepted upon himself a rabbinical position. He was once offered a position in a big city, through the efforts of Rabbi Avraham Shmuel av”d Reisen [author of Amudei Eish] and he came to cry and plead that he cannot accept a rabbinical position…” In this letter, he writes that he was in Reisen and is on his way to Vilna.
