Cobalt Blue Pressed Glass Lidded Candy Dish in the Moon and Star Pattern - This lidded candy dish or small compote is crafted from deep cobalt blue pressed glass. The piece is decorated in the Moon and Star pattern, originally known as Star and Punty, which features large circular indentations known as moons and smaller pressed compass-rose motifs known as stars arranged in a repeating sequence. The bowl is footed with a flared pedestal base that mirrors the pattern and features a scalloped rim. The matching domed lid is similarly decorated and topped with a multi-faceted decorative finial. While this pattern was originally produced in the 19th century, this cobalt blue version is attributed to the L.E. Smith Glass Company from the mid-20th century. There are no visible maker's marks on the interior or exterior of the glass.
