Cooper - A Map of the Middle States of America (Great Lakes, Kentucky, New England, Virginia) - This historic map is from Thomas Cooper's Some Information Respecting America, Collected by Thomas Cooper, Late of Manchester . The work was published in 1794 in Dublin by William Porter, for P. Wogan, P. Byrne, W. Porter, W. Jones, J. Rice, and N. Kelly. The map was engraved by Thomas Conder. 5 Thomas Cooper (1759-1838) was an Anglo-American polymath, philosopher, and economist. Thomas Jefferson referred to him as ”one of the ablest men in America” and John Adams called him ”a learned ingenious scientific and talented madcap.” He served briefly as a judge in Pennsylvania, bur predominantly focused his career in academia.
