Bayardi after Gualtier - Map of Naples, Italy - This richly detailed map of Naples and the Crater of Mount Vesuvius is from P. Gualtier and entitled Cratere Maritimo, o Parte Del Golfo di Napoli first published in 1754. It was part of Ottavio Antonio Bayardi's Le Antichita di Ercolano esposte . The work was published in Naples by Regia Stamperia between 1755 and 1792. This engraving is from the first edition of the important work that illustrated the inventorying of excavated sites of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabiae.
