Tempsky's Mitla, Journey in Mexico, Guatemala, and Salvador - Volume with 1 Map & 14 Plates - This intriguing volume is Gustav Ferdinand von Tempsky's Mitla: A Narrative of Incidents and Personal Adventures on a Journey in Mexico, Guatemala, and Salvador in the years 1853 to 1855 . The work was published in London in 1858 by Longman, Brown, Green, Longmans, & Roberts. The work was edited by J. S. Bell. The volume includes one folding map and fourteen plates with five of them in color. The map shows Mexico and much of Central America. The work is bound in contemporary blue polished calf, spine gilt extra, leather label. Von Tempsky (1828-1868) spent three years in the mining districts of California then began is travels in 1853 through Mexico, Guatemala, and Salvador. This narrative recounts his travels as well as illustrating scenes of Mexico, a view of Durango, ruins at Mitla, and a fight between Rancher and Native Americans.
