Toulouse-Lautrec & Duret's Lautrec - Volume with 2 Original Lithographs and 36 Additional Lithographs after Toulouse-Lautrec - This volume with 38 illustrations by or after Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is Theodore Duret's Lautrec. The work was published in Paris in 1920 by Bernheim-Jeune. This was one of 100 copies printed on papier d'Arches of 200 printed in total. Original etching and lithographs from Toulouse-Lautrec are titled ”Portrait de Tristan Bernard” and ”L'Argent.” (Wittrock) The pages are untrimmed and it is illustrated with an additional 36 lithographs and text throughout. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) was a very talented artist. However in 1899, at the age of 35, he was suffering from dementia and alcoholism (likely brought on by syphillis). He was institutionalized and began this series of circus drawings there from memory. Because of the skill and detail in his work, the doctors decided his health had improved and earned his release after just three months of which Toulouse-Lautrec noted “I bought my freedom with my drawings.” Paper Size: ~ 8” by 10 1/4”
