Khunrath - Alchemist with his tools in his Scientific Lab / Room
This engraving is from Heinrich Khunrath's Amphitheatrum sapientiae aeternae solius verae, Christiano-Kabalisticum, divino-magicum, nec non physico-chymicum, tertriunum, catholicon. The work was published in Hanover by Guilelmus Antonius in 1609. It was first published in 1595, with this edition edited by Erasma Wohlfahrt. The circular engravings from the work were completed by Paulus van der Doort.

The work is "one of the most important books in the whole literature of theosophical alchemy and the occult sciences." (Duveen) His treatise combined Christianity and magic, spirituality and experiment.

Heinrich Khunrath (1560-1605) was a German physician, hermetic philosopher, and alchemist. He was a disciple of Paracelsus. He studied medicine in Dresden, Magdeburg, and Hamburg. He persued a Christianized natural magic rooted in his Lutheran beliefs.
