De Vaugondy - Map of Canada and the Great Lakes, North America - This detailed map of Northern America and Canada is from Giles & Didier Robert de Vaugondy and is entitled ”Partie de l'Amérique septent. qui comprend la Nouvelle France ou le Canada.” The map was published in Paris in 1755. The map was originally engraved by Catherine Houssard, one of the few female engravers working in Paris in the eighteenth century. The map details the political implications of the land around the Great Lakes and Canada prior to the American Revolutionary War. It shows the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia. It shows parts of Quebec, Ontario, New York, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The inset details the Great Lakes, titled 'Les Lacs du Canada.”
